Exotics

We see a large number of different exotic species, including but not limited to :

The fluffies - rabbits, chinchillas, hamsters, chipmunks, sugar gliders, rats and ferrets

Chelonians - many species of terrapins and tortoises, from Asia, Africa and the Americas, from seven gram hatchlings to 40 kilogram Sulcata tortoises

Reptiles -lizards and snakes, geckoes, iguanas, chameleons, waterdragons, cornsnakes, rat snakes and pythons

Primates - slow lories and macaques

Amphibians - frogs and toads

Birds - parrots from the large macaws, down to cockatoos, amazons and African greys, down to the smallest, the love birds, cockatiels and budgies. Other species include tiny song birds, mynahs, toucans, chickens, ducks, swans, peacocks, pigeons and even sparrows.

We have even seen sea horses !

The vet team also does emergency cover work for the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens and Kadoorie Farm when their own vets are on holiday. This has included working with such wild and exciting species as orang utan, jaguar and wild boar. There is also some occasional work at Ocean Park, helping with the marine mammals, fish and bird collections. However it is more common to find our vets volunteering at these institutions as this type of work is quite fascinating and is very educational.
