Christie started working at Island Exotics in December 2017 and is currently studying the AIRC Certificate II and IV in Veterinary Nursing.
She studied Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Sydney and worked at a conservation and education company in Hong Kong as her first job. In 2014, she began her career as a veterinary assistant as she wanted to look for more front line work to help animals. Later on, she hopes to further her studies in anaesthesia as well as exotics and wildlife nursing.
Over the years, she has volunteered at several companion animal shelters and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres, including Animals Asia China Bear Rescue Centre, Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, and Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden. She had also interned at Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society, which allowed her to participate in field-based scientific research on cetacean population studies and conservation projects. Her most recent trips took her to Sydney to work with flying foxes, pangolins in Vietnam, and a 3-day dog and cat desex program in Cambodia.
