Deneka graduated from Massey University in New Zealand, with a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology degree in 2013. She first worked in the Wildlife Hospital, Wildbase, affiliated with Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Her main role as a Wildlife veterinary technician was assisting with injured and sick avian and reptilian species endemic to New Zealand.
In 2016, she went on to work at Wellington Zoo (New Zealand) as a Zoo and wildlife veterinary technician, where she helped provide the clinical care of zoo collection animals and native wildlife.
Deneka has taken part in organising and conducting “Avian First Aid" workshops in New Zealand and has had the opportunity to volunteer her technician skills to conservation practices such as the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (Australia), and Operation Nest Egg (NZ) dealing with the recovery of wild kiwi populations.
Although she has a passion for wildlife, she is ecstatic to be working at Tai Wai Small Animal and Exotic Hospital and to further develop her anaesthesia and physiotherapy skills.
She is looking forward to exploring Hong Kong and kayaking around the islands.
